5 Amazing Nigerian Inventions and Inventors




1. Saheed Adepoju, 

28, is co-founder and chief visionary of the Encipher Group, a Nigerian-based technology company that has produced the country’s first tablet computer, ‘Inye’. The word Inye is derived from Nigeria’s Igala language and means ‘Number 1’. 



INYE-2, which was unveiled in May 2011, is an 8-inch capacitive screen tablet. It runs Android 2.2 and allows a user to connect to the internet using its inbuilt Wi-Fi card as well as using inbuilt SIM [card]. It offers about 8 hours of battery life. It also offers connection to other USB devices such as external flash drives, keyboard and mouse.




2. Jelani Aliyu
A car designer with General Motors. He led the design team for the  company's new Chevrolet Volt. Jelani was born in 1966 in Kaduna, to Alhaji Aliya Haidara and Sharifiya Hauwa’u Aliyu. The fifth of seven children, theirs is a very close-knit family. For him, it was an amazing experience growing up in Sokoto, surrounded by the rich culture of the people and the state and enjoying excellent access to the latest and international information

3. PHILIP EMEAGWALI
Inventor of the World's Fastest Computer. Dr. Philip Emeagwali, who has been called the "Bill Gates of Africa," was born in Nigeria in 1954.
Philip Emeagwali who may well be the greatest scientist of all time is a Nigerian inventor and scientist. He has been living in the United States of America for many years. Philip Emeagwali is recognized worldwide and has been voted “Father of Super-computing,” he is ranked #1 in computing. And ranked FIRST by Google for “contribution to the development of the computer.”
The TIME magazine sees him as: The “Unsung Hero” Behind the Internet.

4. Seyi Oyesola 

He is a Nigerian doctor, who co-invented "hospital in a box".

Fed up with hospitals that were always short in supplies and prone to outages, Dr. Oyesola co-invented hospital in a box, a mini hospital run with solar energy or off grid and completely mobile.



5. Innocent Chukwuma
IVM is part of the Innoson Group of Companies founded by the visionary Chairman, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). 
although the company doesn't exactly manufacture,  IVM introduces automotive products from China, Japan and Germany. It's product line includes heavy duty vehicles, middle and high level buses, special enviroment friendly vehicles. The company carries out optimization design and assembly according to west african road condition so as produce suitable products at affordable prices.
